I will be the first one to stand up and say I love Jon and Kate. The thought of them splitting up is heartbreaking. I use to be interested in watching a show about a real life family, who had been through such an incredible experience. My family is sick of reality TV, and I am sorry to say, I can’t blame them. After all, we are spending too much time watching other families live, and not enough time living ourselves. The current scandal that is happening to the Gosselin family is highly attributed to the success of their reality TV show on TLC, Jon and Kate Plus 8. First you have to understand that fame and fortune from reality TV changes people.
No matter who you are, or where you live, once you get a taste of fame and fortune, it goes to your head. You feel powerful. You want more. You crave more.
If you watch the first episodes of Jon and Kate, right after the sextuplets were born, you will see a normal family that is thankful for each other. They act normal, they want to do normal family things. They are grateful that they were capable of moving to a bigger home which they desperately needed. They showed emotion and love towards each other and the kids. Kate use to act like she was down to earth and many young mothers looked up to her and admired her. Now, Kate only shows sarcasm, and irritation with pretty much everyone on the show including the kids. When she does try to show that she cares, it looks like an act. She just doesn’t seem to be able to let her true feeling show through any more. Kate acts snotty and spoiled. It is sad to see. Jon isn’t perfect either, in recent episodes his attitude is one that is saying, he is only there because he has to be, not because he wants to be. Troubled marriage or not, these are still his kids, and he needs to let his love for them show through.
The income from the reality show is making it difficult to put family first, before the money.
Jon and Kate have had the opportunity of a lifetime to be the stars of a once great reality television show. It is the most popular reality show on TLC. They all had to sacrifice a lot to allow camera crews into their home to film them on a daily basis. When Jon said enough is enough, Kate wasn’t having it. She was willing to sacrifice her relationship because she didn’t want to give up the show. Yes, that is a good source of income to raise their kids, but when you love someone, and your whole life is in jeopardy, most people would be willing to make the decision to sacrifice the show and keep the family. Even if Jon was being unfaithful to Kate, they should have postponed the show and tried to work on keeping their marriage. The public is not stupid, we all know that infidelity has played a big part in the problems that they are experiencing. Maybe on both sides. That is plain selfishness of both parents. Not a way to be thinking of the children.
Reality television shows aren’t for those who want to appear perfect.
When you agree to do a reality show for television, you are making the agreement to show people all over the world how you live. It is suppose to be reality. It is not suppose to paint a perfect picture of a life that no one lives. The Gosselin’s have tried so hard to appear that their life is so happy and perfect to the point that it is getting sickening. Even their family members have come forward telling tales of huge blowout fights and arguments that have happened off camera. The emotions and feeling towards one another show on camera, and the public is aware that something is not right. It is not a secret. People get mad, they make mistakes, they argue and they have marital problems. If Jon and Kate do not want the public to know what is happening with their life, then they need to break their contract with TLC and cancel the show. They are not giving America a reality TV show, they are blowing a bunch of smoke out of their behinds, hoping that the world will just keep watching. Jon is tired of painting a pretty picture and Kate appears that she wants to keep up the act. This is causing trouble on top of the infidelity issues. The problems just keep adding up and if the pressure of the show wasn’t there, it might be easier for the two of them to reach a solution.
